Jonagored (Jonagold), apple
Jonagold is derived from Geneva, New York, in the United States. Jonagold is the fruit of a highly successful crossover from 1968 between Golden Delicious and Jonathan.
The apples are large and cone-shaped, red-orange, slightly striped skin and heavy wax coatings by maturity, get the apples to seem greasy, but that is of entirely natural causes. The flesh is firm and juicy and taste sour-sweet with spicy aroma.
There are many clones of Jonagold, such as Red Jonagold, Jonagored, Jomured and Rubinstar. What distinguishes the clones is the color, as the market wants apples with good color development.
