Akane Apple variety
Cross between Worcester Pearmain & Jonathan. Originated in Japan in the 1930s.
The Akane Apple is a moderately growing fruit tree. Good scab and mildew resistance.
The flowers bloom to a light colored pink. The fruit is quite attractive.
The medium sized fruit is bright red in color, marked with a netter russet, usually close to the stem. Firm, juicy, sweet, balanced with an assertive sharpness. Hint of strawberry in the flavour.
Akane is an excellent early season apple. Very good cooking quality. |
