Sävstaholm äpple - Sävstaholm apple
The mother tree was discovered at Sävstaholm's Estate in Södermanland, Sweden in 1851. A tree was planted in the Agricultural College's Garden in 1890. In 1925 the variety was recommended for planting on Viborg and Horsensegnen. Otherwise, not much cultivated in Denmark.
The tree is weak growing and a vigorous rootstock is recommended.
The apple is medium sized. On older trees, however, they are often small and uneven in size. The base color gradually turns white-green to white-yellow. Sunlit Fruits can get a strong carmine pink tint. Is variable in color with stripes and splashes. The meat is white and loose and easily becomes somewhat dry. Has a pleasant, sweet taste.
Sävstaholm is harvested from the beginning of August (before it is ripe) and almost a month ahead. |
